This Privacy Policy explains how the SkyDial mobile application ("SkyDial", the "App", "we", "us") handles information. SkyDial is provided by RIGPA Tech Private Limited. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
SkyDial is a sky map that shows the stars, planets, Moon and Sun above you. To work out what is overhead and which way your phone is pointing, it uses your location and your phone's motion sensors. All of this is calculated locally, on your phone, and none of it is transmitted to us or to any third party by the App.
The App accesses the following on your device, only while you are using it:
Used to calculate which stars and planets are above you at your position and to compute times such as rise and set. Your location is used on the device and is not sent to us. If you prefer not to share GPS, you can pick a city from the built-in list instead; the App works the same way with a chosen city.
The accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer (compass) tell the App which direction you are pointing the phone, and detect magnetic interference. These readings are processed in real time on the device and are not stored or transmitted.
If you turn on the camera view, the live picture is shown behind the sky map so the two can be seen together. Camera frames are displayed only. They are not recorded, saved, analysed, or sent anywhere. The feature is off by default, and the App is fully usable without it.
The App remembers your chosen location or city, light-pollution (Bortle) setting, display preferences, and your progress through guided tours. This is kept in the App's local storage on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.
We do not collect, store, transmit, or have access to your location, sensor data, camera images, or any personal information. SkyDial does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address, or any other identifying details.
SkyDial does not need an internet connection to work and does not request the internet permission in its published version. All star catalogues, constellation data and astronomical calculations are bundled inside the App.
You can review or withdraw permissions at any time in your device settings:
If you turn off location, you can still choose a city manually. If you turn off the camera, the App works with the plain sky view. The motion sensors are needed for the live "point your phone" view; without them you can still browse, search and use the Tonight list and time scrub.
SkyDial does not include third-party advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking software, and does not send your data to any third-party service.
The app stores through which you download SkyDial (Apple App Store, Google Play) may collect certain information under their own privacy policies, independently of the App.
SkyDial shows the position of the Sun and warns you before you point at it. Never look directly at the Sun, and never look at it through binoculars or a telescope without proper solar filters. Use of the App is at your own risk.
Positions shown by the App are calculated for general stargazing and learning. Phone compasses can be affected by nearby metal and magnets, so on-screen positions may be off until you use the Align feature. The App is not intended for navigation or safety-critical use.
SkyDial is suitable for general audiences, including families. Because the App does not collect personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect any information from children.
Because your data stays on your device, its security depends primarily on your device's own protections (such as your passcode, biometrics, and operating-system security). We recommend keeping your device secured and your software up to date.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP). Because SkyDial does not collect or hold your personal information, there is no personal data on our side to access, correct, export, or delete. You control everything the App stores on your device, and you can clear it by uninstalling the App. If you have questions about your rights, contact us using the details below.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if the App's features change. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App or on this page. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
